Seymour racecourse’s immediate future is uncertain after Racing Victoria, in consultation with the club, transferred the next scheduled meeting for the venue.
The meeting originally set down for Seymour on next Monday, April 23 will now be run at Echuca.
The decision was made after last Tuesday’s meeting, the first at the track since December 21 last year, did not perform as industry participants would have hoped.
The meeting was run on a Soft 5 surface with larger-than-normal chunks of turf dug up by horses during the running of races.
‘‘We have conducted various soil and turf tests on the track since last week’s meeting, which we hope will help explain the cause of last week’s issues but also help rectify them,’’ Seymour Racing Club chief executive Penny Reeve said.
‘‘Hopefully these will provide some answers, which will enable racing to return to Seymour on Thursday, May 10.’’
In addition to May 10, Seymour has race meetings scheduled for May 25, June 7, June 20, July 2 and July 19 before the 2017/18 season ends on July 31.
