Cody Thompson stretched out to take the mark.

Dylan Mendoza takes a strong grab in the Swans’ forward line.

Stephen Cusack boots the ball forward for Avenel.

Will Dundon takes a nice mark.

Avenel’s thirds have continued their perfect finals run with a 40-point win against Lancaster on Sunday.

The Swans broke away in a confidence-boosting first quarter, kicking five goals to Lancaster’s two behinds.

The Wombats were better in the second quarter, outscoring Avenel by three points, but were wasteful in front of goal.

Avenel’s defensive pressure proved too great as Lancaster kicked four costly behinds, which if kicked straight could have brought them back into the contest.

Neither team managed to gain any ground on the other in an even third quarter, with the Swans still leading by 26 points at the last change.

The Swans maintained the pace well into the final quarter and Lancaster eventually capitulated, allowing Avenel to run away with the win and a place in next week’s preliminary final.

It will be a tough, but not impossible, task for Avenel against Tallygaroopna in Saturday’s preliminary final.

The Redlegs are in fine form, having ended their season in second place on the ladder, and have lucked out in the draw as hosts of the do-or-die preliminary final clash.
