With the tennis season fast approaching, Avenel Tennis Club is preparing for another bumper season.

The club is looking to field several teams in both the Saturday afternoon Benalla and District competition and the Saturday morning Broadford and District junior competition.

A working bee will be held on September 10, beginning at 9am, in order to carry out court and clubhouse maintenance in preparation for the upcoming season.

This will be followed by a fun hit to get the swing happening again and the tennis brain working.

All members of the community are welcome to come along and join in.

The working bee will be held on the same day as the Avenel Market so you can bag a bargain and grab a bite to eat in order to replenish those energy levels afterwards.

Training nights will start on September 14 with junior training at 4pm followed by seniors from 5.30pm.

The first game of the season will be held on October 7.

Anyone interested in playing either junior or senior competition tennis are asked to contact either Stephen Garner on 57962547 or Dee Wright on 57962309 as soon as possible so that teams can be organised for the two competitions.

We’re also keen to get junior coaching back again and are looking for someone who’s interested in running a Hot Shots coaching program for junior players.

If you would like to know more about the Hot Shots program, or you’re keen to take on this role, please contact either Stephen or Dee on the phone numbers above.

All equipment needed to run the program is available at the club.
