Mitchell Shire Leisure Centre members with a passion for pedalling are encouraged to jump on an exercise bike and take part in the Tour de Mitchell.
The competition, now in its third year, challenges people to cycle as far as they can during the 23-day Tour de France, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.
Registrations are now open, with the Tour de Mitchell beginning on July 1 and running until July 23.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the Tour de Mitchell was a fun and convenient way to get, or stay, in shape.
‘‘Winter is setting in and as temperatures plummet, so can the motivation to exercise,’’ Cr Sanderson said.
‘‘Taking part in the Tour de Mitchell is a great way to get fit, challenge yourself against your family or friends, and even take out a prize, all in the comfort of Mitchell Shire’s leisure centres in Kilmore and Seymour.
‘‘Last year’s winner cycled about 420km so we would love to see someone break that record this year.’’
The top four cyclists who ride the furthest during the challenge go into the running for the following major prizes — Fitbit Flex 2 (first); a two-week lifestyle membership, Kilmore Osteopathy Clinic consult and follow-up treatment, and a 30-minute massage with Merrilyn Sanderson Masseur (second); Kilmore Osteopathy Clinic consult and follow-up treatment, and a 30-minute massage with Merrilyn Sanderson Masseur (third); and a 30-minute massage at Kilmore Myotherapy Clinic (fourth).
